How Sparity Helped Pathsaathi Modernize Its Platform and Reduce Infrastructure Costs by Approximately 50%

GCP to AWS · Application Rebuild · Architecture Modernization · Cost Optimization

Overview

Pathsaathi’s existing applications were constrained by a complex legacy architecture, rising maintenance overhead, and limited scalability. Sparity assessed the environment, rebuilt three business applications, and migrated to the platform from GCP to AWS on a modern React, Python, and PostgreSQL stack. The transformation reduced approximate monthly infrastructure costs from $2,000 to $1000 while expanding support from one client application to two client instances.

Results Snapshot Impact
Infrastructure cost reduction Approximately 50%
Monthly infrastructure cost Reduced from approximately $2,000 to $1000
Client instance support Expanded from one client application to two client instances
Modernized stack React, Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS

Client Overview

Pathsaathi operates a technology platform comprising multiple business applications, including an ERP platform, a Job Portal, and a Training platform.

Domain / Industry Vertical

Industry: HR Technology / Workforce Management / Education & Training Technology

  • ERP Application – Business and operational management
  • Job Portal – Recruitment and employment-related services
  • Training Platform – Learning, training, and skill-development activities

The applications were originally hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and followed a microservices-oriented architecture using Next.js, NestJS, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL.

Client Challenges

Application & Architecture Challenges

  • Multiple applications were built using Next.js and NestJS across a distributed microservices architecture.
  • The combination of multiple services and databases increased operational and maintenance complexity.
  • The existing applications required detailed technical assessment before long-term ownership and modernization.
  • There was an opportunity to standardize the application stack and simplify the overall architecture.

Cloud & Cost Challenges

  • The client was running the application environment on GCP.
  • The approximate GCP infrastructure cost was $2,000 per month for one client application/instance.
  • The existing cloud architecture had an opportunity for significant cost optimization without compromising the platform’s ability to support growth.

Business Challenge

The requirement was not simply to perform a lift-and-shift migration from GCP to AWS. The objective was to audit the existing environment, rebuild the applications, modernize the technology architecture, migrate to AWS, and establish a more maintainable, scalable, and cost-efficient platform.

Our Solution & Cloud Components Leveraged

Our team performed a complete technical assessment of the existing environment and took ownership of the three applications. Instead of performing a direct lift-and-shift, we followed a rebuild and modernization approach.

Application Modernization

  • Audited the existing applications and infrastructure.
  • Re-engineered and rebuilt all three applications from scratch.
  • Standardized the frontend using React.
  • Standardized backend services using Python.
  • Migrated the primary data platform to PostgreSQL.
  • Designed the applications with maintainability, scalability, and operational simplicity in mind.

AWS Cloud Transformation

  • AWS Compute – Application workloads hosted on AWS compute services
  • Amazon RDS – Managed database services for PostgreSQL
  • Amazon S3 – Object/file storage where required
  • Application Load Balancer (ALB) – Application traffic distribution where required
  • Amazon Route 53 – DNS management
  • Amazon CloudWatch – Monitoring and operational visibility
  • AWS IAM – Identity and access management
  • Amazon VPC & Security Controls – Network isolation and workload security

Cost Optimization Impact

A major outcome of the transformation was a significant reduction in infrastructure cost while expanding the environment to support two client instances.

Metric Before – GCP After – AWS
Environment 1 client application 2 client instances
Approx. monthly cost $2,000 $1000
Cost per instance $2,000 $500
Monthly savings — $1,000
Cost reduction — 50%

The AWS environment reduced the approximate monthly infrastructure cost from $2,000 for one client application on GCP to approximately $1000 for two client instances on AWS. This represents an approximate 50% reduction in total monthly infrastructure spend, while the number of supported client instances increased from one to two.

Annualized Cost Impact

  • Approximate GCP annual cost: $24,000
  • Approximate AWS annual cost: $12,400
  • Approximate annual savings: $12,000

Note: These figures are based on the stated approximate monthly infrastructure costs and are intended for case-study/marketing purposes.

Accelerators Used

The engagement combined Cloud Migration, Application Modernization, and Cost Optimization accelerators.

  • Application Modernization Accelerator – Reusable architecture patterns and standardized development practices were used to rebuild the applications using a consistent technology stack.
  • Cloud Migration Accelerator – A structured assessment, dependency review, architecture redesign, migration, and validation approach was used to move the workloads from GCP to AWS.
  • Cost Optimization Accelerator – The AWS architecture was designed with a focus on right-sizing and efficient resource utilization, resulting in substantially lower infrastructure spending.
  • DevOps & Deployment Accelerator – The modernized applications provide a standardized foundation for CI/CD, automated builds, testing, deployment, and environment-based releases.

Key Outcomes

  • Three business applications completely audited and rebuilt.
  • Successful transformation from GCP to AWS.
  • Modernized application stack using React, Python, and PostgreSQL.
  • Infrastructure cost reduced from approximately $2,000/month to $1000/month.
  • Supported two client instances at the new AWS cost level.
  • Approximately 50% reduction in monthly infrastructure spend.
  • Approximately $12,000 estimated annual infrastructure savings.
  • Reduced application and infrastructure complexity.
  • Improved maintainability and operational visibility.
  • Established a scalable foundation for future client onboarding and growth.

Conclusion

Sparity helped Pathsaathi move away from a complex – cost heavy application environment. We helped them migrate to an environment that is modern, cost-efficient, and scalable for future use by rebuildinging three business applications and standardizing technology stacks.
